Step into a world of sensory wonder and creative exploration.

Free creative and multi-sensory activities especially designed for children, parents/carers, teachers and support staff in Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings supported by artists from a range of disciplines, including music, visual arts, drama and dance.

From exploring music, light and textures to movement and smell, Playground Specialist Sessions empower families to connect with each other in new, fun and creative ways.

Each session lasts 45 minutes and is facilitated by artists experienced at working in SEND settings.

“It’s given us all a space. It's been amazing to be able to see the children interacting in a way that they would never do at home, you know, never, ever, never… It's just like a snippet of what could be at home and it's trying to find a way of doing that.”.

Films and podcasts

As part of Playground on Screen with a focus on Playground Specialist, Playground has also created a series of four films and accompanying podcasts that offer a glimpse of the inspirational work Playground has been doing with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Playground’s Specialist Sessions take place in Family Hubs and specialist schools and like all Playground activity they are co-created by our artists, the participating children and the adults who care for them.

Each film and accompanying podcast explore a theme that has emerged from sessions that evolved over the course of a year.

With thanks to Kent Family Hub for funding Playground on Screen.
